Kim Young-im: Jeonseon Arirang (정선 아리랑)
Here is a beautiful song by one of South Korea's most renowned traditional singers, the gorgeous Kim Young-im. This song is a South Korean local version of the song Arirang, probably the most famous and popular Korean folk song with many versions (this one has been sung in Jeongseon County for more than 600 years). "Arirang" is an ancient native Korean word with no direct modern meaning. "Ari" means "beautiful", "Rang" can mean "dear". Because of those words, Arirang could be interpreted to mean "beautiful dear". Arirang is a mountain in Korea.
The song performed here comes from the beautiful Korean film Bom yeoreum gaeul gyeoul geurigo bom ("Spring, summer, fall, winter... and spring") from 2004.
Listen to the incredibly powerful voice of Kim Young-im and enjoy the beauty of Korean music and culture!
