Here is a great Russian gypsy song performed in his inimitable style by the fabulous Ivan Rebroff!
Ivan Rebroff (1931-2008, real name Hans-Rolf Rippert) is a German singer, who claimed a Russian origin, with an extraordinary vocal range of four and a half octaves. He sings in German, Russian, French, English, Afrikaans, Italian and Greek.
This athlete (195 cm and 115 kgs) is famous for singing Russian folk songs but also performs opera, light classics and folk songs from many countries. His stage performances have stunned audiences with their gusto, and occasional consumption of a fine red wine. He has received in his career 49 golden records.
Rebroff describes himself as international, the "connection between 'East and West'" and lives on the Sporade Island of Skopelos, Greece. Ivan has performed over 7 200 concerts in his career in front of 5,8 millions of spectators, including a two year 7 day a week stint at the French opera, singing, among other greats, Fiddler on the roof. Being well in his 70s, in a recent Australian tour, Ivan still performed 12 shows in 14 days!
Enjoy!
